My baby girl is growing up! Kenley lost her first tooth on December 22 while eating an apple. Her reaction as totally unexpected…she cried! She said she didn’t want the tooth to come out! I finally convinced her it was a good thing and that the Tooth Fairy would be paying her a visit that night!

The second tooth came out a little over a month later on February 3! It happened at school and went over much better!

Cutest toothless kid ever!

Kenley 4 1/4 Years

Dear Kenley,

On July 17, you were 4 ¼ year old.  You’re growing up so fast!

You are still my little firecracker these days.  You still keep me on my toes all the time.  You’ve developed a little sassy attitude lately.  I say you are 4 going on 14 most of the time.  You’ve picked up the phrases “whatever” and “what the heck.”  You know how to roll your eyes at the appropriate times and you have what I like to call the “stink face” when you are unhappy about something.  You don’t lack personality, that’s for sure!

You still love school.  You continued to go to school during the summer and you have had a great time.  There weren’t enough kids from the Tues/Thurs class to keep it going during summer, so you started going Mon/Wed and met a whole new group of friends.  Stuff like this doesn’t seem to phase you. You make friends very easily.  You will go up to older kids and introduce yourself like it’s no big deal.  I couldn’t do that at 4! (as a matter of fact, I don’t know if I am really comfortable doing it at 32!)  You so amaze me in that way!

We’ve been spending a lot of time outside and at the park this summer.  You love playing at the park with your friend, Ellie.  You two always say you’re going to play in the water, but you rarely ever get wet!  You two love playing make believe and both of you have imaginary friends.

Your baby sister adores you.  You can make her laugh like no one else can.  You are a great big sister.  You love that Dylan is getting old enough to really play with.  You do pretty well with sharing your toys with her as well.  You only get a little protective of your art supplies because you say she’s too young to play with them. Oh, little Mommy!

You took your first ballet class recently.  You LOVED it!  There was even a little recital at the end and you could NOT WAIT to get on stage!  No stage fright for you!  I was pretty impressed at how graceful you are, considering you are my child!

Here are some of your current favorites:

Book: still Busytown

TV Show: Jake and the Neverland Pirates

Toy: horses

I love you my baby girl!

Kenley 4 Years Old

Dear Kenley,

On April 17, you turned 4 YEARS OLD!!!! I spent some time looking back at the posts I’ve written about you over the past 4 years, and I just can’t believe you are really 4. It has all gone by soooo fast.

You really do keep us on our toes these days. You are a bundle of energy, and you can go full speed ALL DAY! You love playing outside, riding your bike, playing in the garden, and playing on your swing set (as long as we get rid of the spider webs first). You can now coast and pick up your feet on your Skuut bike. You will probably be ready for a pedal bike (with NO training wheels) before you know it.

You still love going to school and seem to be thriving there. You’ve made some good little friends this year. Looks like most of them will be in your next year too, so that’s going to be fun! You occasionally have a listening issue at school (and home too J), but Teacher Megan is pretty good at getting you back on task.

You can be a handful sometimes. As mentioned above, sometimes you have an aversion to listening. It’s been a frustration of ours since you turned 3! You can talk my ear off! You can go for a half hour straight without missing a beat! Especially in the car, where are the ultimate back seat driver! “Mommy, why are you driving so fast, why are you driving so slow, why are you stopping, why are you going!” I never knew a 4 year old could be such a master driver!

All of your cute little quirks aside, you are so loving and caring and kind hearted. You have so much empathy for other people. You tell me you love me about 50 times a day. You love hugs and kisses. You are a great big sister. Dylan adores you. Your Papa and I adore you too.

Here are some of your favorites right now:

Book: Busytown

TV Show: Max & Ruby

Toy: horses

Movie: Star Wars (but you have to watch it with Papa

Food: Popcorn or cereal with no milk, no spoon

Drink: apple juice

Here are your 4 year old stats:

Weight: 36 pounds – 23rd Percentile

Height: 42.1 inches – 91st Percentile

I think you will just be tall and skinny…poor you!

We couldn’t love you any more baby girl. Try to slow down the growing up just a little !

Love you to pieces,

3 3/4 Years Old

Dear Kenely,

On January 17, you were 3 ¾ years old. I can’t believe that the next time I write one of these posts, you will be 4 years old. I really am so amazed at how fast these last (almost) 4 years have gone by.

You are one amazing big sister. You are super helpful (sometimes too helpful :)). No one make’s Dylan giggle like you do. She just looks at you like you are the best thing ever. You can soothe her, and sometimes you are able to put her back to sleep if she wakes up. It’s really cute to watch you be a little Mommy.

You are a busy kid these days. You go to school Tuesday and Thursday. You go to gymnastics on Thursday. You have swimming lessons on Saturday. You love all of these things. You’ve struggled with listening this past month, so we often have to remind you about listening to your teachers. Watching you at gymnastics is extra special for Mommy. It reminds me of all those years in a gym. I still feel at home in a gym! You are fearless at swimming. You will jump right in when your teacher isn’t looking (which you aren’t supposed to do!). But you are also willing to try anything. You are always raising your hand wanting to go first. I’m proud of how fast you’re learning how to swim!

You continue to love school. You love to play with your horses and ponies. You love dressing up in princess dresses and tutus. You love playing basketball with your Papa. You love wearing your Portland Trail Blazer’s jersey when you play basketball and while you watch basketball on TV with Papa. Pancakes are your favorite food. Max and Ruby is your favorite TV show. We are Never Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift is your favorite song. You love wearing shoes that have sparkles on them (and those darn pink cowboy boots your Nana bought you!). You love giving Eskimos kisses, but for some reason you call them nuggles, it’s so cute. You are super goofy and funny (as you can see in all the pics!)

I loves sooooooo much!

3 1/2 Years Old

Dear Kenley,

On October 17, you were 3 ½ years old.  That just sounds sooo old to me.  You’re like practically grown!

A lot has changed for you since my last post.  You are now a big sister!  And you are a FABULOUS big sister!  I couldn’t have asked for you to handle welcoming your baby sister any better.  You love to help.  You always get the diaper and wipes for us, and you even take the stinky diapers to the trash for us.  You tell me at least 3 times a day that you love having a baby sister.  Dylan sure is lucky to have such an awesome big sister to look up to.

You have entered that phase where you have no volume control when you talk!  So, you sometimes talk really loud…and talk you can!  Lately you talk my ear off…all the time!  Sometimes I start to lose my patience with the constant “why’s” and questions, but then I just think about how much I will want you to talk to me when you’re a teenager, and you won’t want to.  So, I try to it indulge your curiosity and enjoy you being you!

You still love school.  You went on your first field trip earlier this month.  Your class went to the Pumpkin Patch.  You got to ride on a real school bus and everything! I think the school bus may have been the most exciting part for you!  You are also taking swimming lessons right now.  You did lessons when you were like 6 months old, but nothing since.  I was a little worried that you would be apprehensive because we aren’t allowed to be in the pool with you.  But, you’ve really done well!  You were going under water during the first lesson!  I am sooo proud!  I grew up in the water, so it makes me happy to see you being a little fish!

I can’t believe how much you’ve grown…not just physically, but how you’ve really embraced being a big sis and all it’s responsibilities.  I love you more every day.

First Day of Preschool!

Yesterday, Kenley started preschool!  We’ve been talking to her about it for quite some time now.  She started having some separation anxiety a while back, so I’ve been a little anxious about how the transition to preschool would go.  I am just happy preschool started before her sister arrived!  One change at a time!

Kenley woke up and immediately started crying that she didn’t want to go to school!  Big tears and all!  This is exactly what I was afraid would happen!  We managed to get her fed, dressed, and the obligatory 1st day pictures taken.

We got to school, walked her and got her settled.  And, to my surprise, my big girl hugged us and said goodbye.  Then she turned around and kept doing what she was doing!  I am so proud of her!  She came home telling me how much she loves school and that she wants to go back…Phew!

Here are some pics of our morning.  She’s a silly kid sometimes!

Showing how strong she is in front of her school!

Settled in and playing at school!

3 1/4 Years Old!

Dear Kenley,

On July 17, you were 3 1/4 years old! These months just seem to go faster and faster the older you get.

You are definitely 3 years old. I don’t know why they call them the “terrible 2’s,” because 3 is so much worse. I guess that’s why they make kids so cute…so you don’t kill them when they’re 3!  I understand you’re trying to push your boundaries and what not, but geez kid, you are STUBBORN!  But I do hope that quality stays with you as you grow and you are always able to stand up for what you believe in.

You absolutely love summer.  You would live outside 24 hours a day if we’d let you. You adore camping because you basically get to live outside!   And you get soooo dirty, but it doesn’t seem to bother you one bit. You, for some reason, think it’s reasonable to pee in the backyard…I don’t know where this came from, but one day I turned around, and they you were, pants down, peeing in the backyard!  Your other favorite thing about summer…eating straight from the garden.  You will eat anything straight out of the garden…carrots, beans, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries…you love them all!

You are going through some sort of separation anxiety right now.  I’m not sure what started it, but it’s happening.  Usually you are OK like 2 minutes after I leave, but it’s still heartbreaking.  It’s making your upcoming start of preschool a little stressful for me!  I’m sure you’ll love school though, so that helps.  What also helps is that your Papa is going to drop you off.  I think that will make it easier…plus, you get to ride to school in the bike trailer…how cool is that!

You are very interested in your baby sister. You kiss and rub my belly and ask me when she’s coming out all the time. You named her Apple Dumpling a while ago, so that’s we’ve called her the whole pregnancy.  Your Papa is a little concerned you will be upset when we give her an actual name!  I think you are going to be an amazing big sister!

You are an awesome kid and I love you to pieces!

3 Years Old!

Dear Kenley,

(Obviously a little late!)

Today, you are 3 years old! 3!!! Really!!! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years already! It’s hard to believe you are going to be a big sister in 6 months! You are going to be an awesome big sister!

You are quite the independent little one these days. This, I am quite thankful for. I had about 7 weeks of pretty awful all day pregnancy sickness. The fact that you can take yourself to the potty and play by yourself was such a blessing. I felt horrible for you, but I am trying to make it up to you now that I am feeling normal again.

You still amaze me with the things that you come up with. Today when you were getting in the car to go to the doctor’s office, you informed us that your cow would be coming with us. The cow sat in the back seat with you and came to the doctor with us.

You love playing with your friends.  You go to babysitting co-op a couple of time a week with the same 4 or 5 kids, and you have so much fun.  You are good at adapting…you do girly things with the girls and wrestle with the boys!   I am so glad you have a group of friends you’re so comfortable with and have so much fun with (which allows me some free time)!

You had your 3 year check up and here are your stats:

Height: 39 inches (85th Percentile)

Weight: 31 pounds (55th Percentile)

You are healthy and tall and skinny!

Time is going by too fast…but I am enjoying every second of you!

Love you tons,

2 3/4 Years!

Dear Kenley,

On January 17, you were 2 3/4 years old! I can’t believe you will be 3 the next time I write one of these posts! A part of me wants to stop doing these quarterly posts because it just reminds me of how fast time is going…I don’t like it! But, I hope one day you’ll appreciate being able to know about your former self!

Here is a list of notable things that have happened in the last few months:

  • You are 100% potty trained (I fully expect you to be un-potty trained in the morning just because I wrote this on the internet for all to see!) You have even started going all by yourself with no help!
  • You are a little artist…you can draw and make the drawings look like actual things, like people, the sun, snowmen (you really like drawing snowmen and then telling us which on is Kenley, Papa, and Mommy)
  • You love playing with your friends…you get so excited for babysitting co-op and tell me about all your friends!
  • You still use a binky at night and at nap time…my bad…I am hoping to do away with it soon.
  • You love your grandparents.  Every time you are pretending, you are always talking to Nana on the phone or giving Nana tea.  And you get so excited to see your Grandpa…like more excited than when you see your parents…
  • You love to sing and play on your keyboard.
  • You had an awesome Christmas with your Kentucky family! You call it “Tucky” and you love watching Tucky (and Blazers) basketball with Mommy and Papa!
  • You are such a good little Mommy. You love your dolls and you especially love real babies. You were also a big help when Mommy is sick. You like to take my temperature and ask, “You not feel well, Mommy?” So cute!
  • You are SILLY! see pics below

An outfit of her own choosing

You would have thrown rocks in the creek for hours!

And just for fun, this is you one year ago! You’ve grown sooo much!

Love you bunches silly girl!
